Cyphotilapia frontosa is a fish native to Lake Tanganyika in central Africa. It has black verticle bars adorning a white or blue body. They may have undertones of other colors, adding to the beauty of the species. A large protrusion will form on the posterior portion of the frontosa's head, which is more pronounced in the male of the species. It is formed of fatty tissue. Older frontosa can get as large as 12 inches or more. They are open-water swimmers. The Cyphotilapia frontosa is not the largest fish Lake Tanganyika as this is a distinction held by Boulengerochromis microlepis which can reach sizes of 60+ cm.
