Format

The competition was traditionally a pure knockout tournament. All ties were two-legged, except the final. Knockout (K.O.), or simply knock, is a winning criterion of many ringsports, such as boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai and others. ...


However the format of the competition changed radically in the season 2002/03 and since then the format has a lot of similarities with the UEFA Champions League. That caused difficulities for weak teams to make the suprize. The competition currently consists of the first 3 knock out rounds, one stage of group competition (where teams play each other in the style of "home-and-away" or "regular season" competition), and then four rounds of knock-out finals. The first 3 round ties and the final are single match played with extra time and kicks from the penalty mark (penalty shootout) if necessary, with the winners progressing to the next round. The other knock-out ties are played over two matches (one at each club's stadium) with the aggregate score being used to determine the winners. If the scores are level at the end of the second match extra time is played. If the scores are still level at the end of extra time the club who has scored the most away goals goes through. If the number of away goals is level a penalty shootout is used to decide the winners. The first two rounds are played by low division teams in one leg., the same as the final. The first 8 teams in first Division in previous year pass automatically in Groups, which consist of 16 teams, the rest First Division teams pass bye to 3rd round, while the rest begin from First Round.
