Człuchów (Polish: Człuchów; German: Schlochau, pronunciation, IPA: 'ʧwuxuf,), is a town in Middle Pomerania region, north-western Poland with some 10,000 inhabitants.

It is also the capital of Czluchow County in Pomeranian Voivodship since 1999, previously in Slupsk Voivodship (1975-1998).

History

In 1312, the Deutsche Orden Schlochau and the village of Brode for 250 marks of Nikolaus von Ponirz/ The knights established the castle.

East of the castle, the city received the municipal law in 1348.

Schlochau in 1570 consisted of 45 houses, in 1770, it increased to 135. In 1786 and 1793, the city suffered heavy destruction, two fires of the castle was giben in order to use the bricks for rebuilding the city. The castle was ruined.

Schlochau was the seat of the district of Schlochau. There were no industries. In 1937, the sawmill and a mill were built. The population reached 6,029 persons.

In 1945, Schlochau became a part of Poland and change to its present name.
