Encyclopedia > D region

The D region is the portion of the ionosphere that exists approximately 50 to 95 km above the surface of the Earth.

Note: Attenuation of radio waves, caused by ionospheric free-electron density generated by solar radiation, is pronounced during daylight hours. Because solar radiation is not present at night, ionization ceases, and hence attenuation of radio waves ceases.

3-D Region Growing (652 words)
The region grower is used to derive a ROI mask for cortical data.
While the minimum adjacency criteria prevents the expansion of regions along a single line of voxels, the maximum adjacency criteria prevents the exclusion of voxels that are otherwise surrounded by several voxels already in the growing region.
The output of region grow is a labeled volume, where the label indicates the membership of a voxel in a segmented object.
Texas Water Matters (1625 words)
Region D is projected to experience a 72% population increase by 2060 (compared to a 60% population increase reported in the last round of planning)
The Region D Water Planning Group even went one step further and recommends no reservoir should be built in the region unless all other viable water supply options, including advanced water conservation, have been exhausted.
The second notable area of improvement in this round of planning is that the Region D planning group set a municipal water conservation target for their region, and that target is fairly aggressive: to consider water conservation as a possible supply strategy when municipal usage was greater than 140 gallons-per-capita-per-day.
