Of course, Compton's unseemly preoccupation with people is rendered even more disturbing by his tendency to select women as the main protagonists in his novels.
In fact, it could be argued that, like mos writers, Compton doesn't write about 'people' at all, but merely attaches the same assortment of character traits to roughly similar sheets of cardboard and gives them each a funny hat to traipse about in.
As I mentioned in a previous footnote, Compton's prominence in the field is largely attributable to the flatness of the surrounding terrain.
