D.R.I., or Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, was a crossover thrash (thrash metal / hardcore hybrid) band from Houston, Texas (later based out of San Francisco, California) and are often considered one of the most important bands of the Bay Area thrash scene. While their first album was blindingly fast hardcore, they included more influences from thrash as time went by, eventually crossing over to thrash metal, as shown by Crossover (1987) and Thrash Zone (1989). Crossover is often considered to be the album that declared the hardcore / thrash metal crossover. Their first album, Dirty Rotten LP, featured 28 tracks, over half of which were less than a minute long. The band still tours with two original members Kurt Brecht and Spike Cassidy.
