General Hardness is a measure for the number of calcium and magnesium cations per volume of water. 1 dGH corresponds to 10 mg of calcium oxide or magnesium oxide per litre of water.

DGH was born out of work that began in the communities of Estancia, El Salvador in the post-civil war period of the early 1990's.
DGH has been accompanying the people of Estancia since then, helping to build a bridge connecting the communities to the rest of the world, and taking part in projects in the areas of health, education, environment, agriculture, income generation and community development.
