Location

Da Nang is located from 15°55' to 16°14' N, 107°18 to 108°20' E. On the North is Vietnam's former capital Huế, on the West and South is Quảng Nam and on the East Sea. In 1847, French vessels bombard Đà Nẵng in response to persecution of Catholic missionaries.


In August 1858, French troops landed under the orders of Napoleon III, beginning colonial occupation in the area. As a concession it was renamed Tourane in French.
