The Daihatsu Terios is a mini SUV, first released in 1997 by the Japanese car manufacturer Daihatsu. The engine was a modified Daihatsu Charade 1.3 litre engine, with constant four wheel drive. First Generation

Overview

The first generation of its history was available as 4 door wagon, and the smaller model(K-car) called Terios Kid (Japan only).

In 2000, Daihatsu gave the Terios a mild facelift both in the exterior and interior of the vehicle. A new chrome grille replaced the plastic black grille. The high-grade model had an addition of electric front windows, central locking, rear seat head restraints, alloy wheels, roof rails and a roof-mounted rear spoiler. Mechanically, the 1.3 litre SOHC four cylinder engine fitted to the previous model had been replaced by the new 1.3 litre DOHC four cylinder engine. Power was also increased by 3 kW. A sport version of K3-VT engine were produced on Japan in several period.

In Australia, a sports limited edition series was introduced in 2001 with only 200 units being available. The vehicle had body colour matching bumpers, different to the two-tone bumper colour on the standard model. Rear spoiler and sunroof became standard. The interior was updated with metallic paint finish on the centre console and instrument binnacle surround, white-faced dials and sports seats.

The first series Daihatsu Terios is also known as Huali Dario Terios in China, the Toyota Cami and Perodua Kembara (Malaysia), whilst the Zotye 2008 is apparently an illegal copy of the car. The Zotye 2008 is a small 5 door SUV produced by an offshoot of the Zhejiang Tech-New Group called Zotye Auto in Zhejiang, China. ...

"Toyota Cami" was introduced with "Dancing baby" CF in Japan, which CG-drawned many babies dance in avant-garde style.

In Indonesia, this car know as Daihatsu Taruna which have longer rear-based body capable for 7 seat and a difference facelite. But there also newer model are now referred as "Terios".

Second Generation

On the Japanese Domestic Market the Terios has been succeeded by the Daihatsu Be-go and Toyota Rush. However, it's not related to the European market: new model is sold under name Terios, as previously.

The Be-go, and the similar Toyota Rush both use a 1.5-litre engine; diesel versions arrive in mid-2007.

In December 2006, Daihatsu Indonesia launch the second generation of Terios which have longer body and 7 seat.
