History

It was Established in 1942, Dainik Jagran was the brainchild of a revolutionary Indian Freedom fighter, Late Shri Puran Chandra Gupta. Late Mr Narendra Mohan took the paper to meteoric rise. The first Edition launched was from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh in 1942. In 1947, it shifted its headquarters to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and thus launched its second edition – the Kanpur Edition. Present

Currently, "Dainik Jagran" has 31 editions and the only daily to print over 200 sub-editions, each one customized in content to the needs of the readers in different geographical areas. Today, Dainik Jagran has 29 Printing Centers in 10 States, with over 200 sub-editions. Achievements

  • According to NRS-2005 DAINIK JAGRAN,is the highest read National Daily across all languages (including English) in India with a phenomenal readership of 21.24 Million Readers .
  • The 1st Indian publication to cross the 20 million mark. An ABC certified Net paid Sales of over 2.4 million copies (Source : ABC Jan-Jun 05).

The paper is seen as politically biased towards Hindu nationalist groups and parties in India. Several office bearers of Hindu groups like VHP, RSS and the BJP are regular contributors to the articles published. One owner of the paper Narendra Mohan also becamee a Member of Parliament(RAJYA SABHA) with the BJP support. During the demolition of Babri Mosque in 1992 and Gujrat riots in 2002 its reporting was grossly biased towards the BJP and other Hindu groups.
