Daito (大東町; -cho) was a town located in Ōhara District, Shimane, Japan.
As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 14,327 and a density of 94.11 persons per km².
On November 12004, Daito merged with Kamo and Kisuki from Ohara District and the towns and villages of Kakeya, Mitoya and Yoshida from Iishi District to form the new city of Unnan.
The Oki Islands in the Sea of Japan are also part of Shimane Prefecture, which also claims to have jurisdiction over the South Korea-controlled island of Dokdo (Takeshima).
On November 1, 2004, x74;he towns of Daito, Kamo and Kisuki from Ohara District and x74;he towns and villages of Kakeya, Mitoya and Yoshida from Iishi District merged to form the new city of Unnan.
On March 31, 2005, x74;he towns of Kashima, Mihonoseki, Shimane, Shinji, Tamayu and Yatsuka and the village of Yakumo (all from Yatsuka District) merged with the city of Matsue to form the new city of Matsue.
