Origin

The Dakara Temple and the Dakara Superweapon were built by the Ancients, the creators of the Stargate network. According to Anubis, it was once used by the Ancients to re-create the precursors of all current life in the galaxy, after the plague that wiped out the Ancients devastated the entire Milky Way Galaxy. Thus deeming it as a weapon is disputable.[1] An Ancient The Ancients are a fictional race in the Stargate universe. ... Col. ... The device was located at the Temple of Dakara. It is said by all Jaffa that the Temple was the origin of their enslavement to the Goa'uld, the dominant race of the galaxy. At the Temple, Jaffa were first given their strength and symbiotes. The Temple is the ultimate holy ground of the Goa'uld, who keep the Jaffa loyal by propagating lies that they are gods. The weapon itself was protected by a heavy door, in Ancient text stamped into five circles. These circles could be rotated, but only when the text is in the proper sequence will the door open and admit. Since many Ancient symbols mean completely different symbols when seen upside-down, the inscription can be interpreted any number of ways. This makes the door a giant combination lock, excluding anyone who doesn't have a thorough understanding of the Ancient language.[2]

Function

The Superweapon is designed to reduce all matter within range to its basic atomic structure. It does this by propagating a disruptor wave that separates the atoms. While it is incapable of destroying an entire planet, the wave will wash over a planet's surface and the surrounding space.

Its range is normally limited to Dakara and its surrounding space, but when the DHD to Dakara's Stargate is modified to dial all Stargates in the galaxy simultaneously, the weapon can reach all planets with Stargates in the entire Milky Way galaxy. The Milky Way (a translation of the Latin Via Lactea, in turn derived from the Greek Γαλαξίας (Galaxias), sometimes referred to simply as the Galaxy), is a barred spiral galaxy of the Local Group. ...

The weapon is easily altered to fit one's needs. Its control panel has many blocks in a grid that may be moved lower or higher accordingly to alter the type of wave that the weapon emits. The default wave will break down any matter.[2] The wave can also be modified to target only organic tissue, disintigrating bodies while leaving inorganic items like buildings, clothing, and ships intact. This wave is also powerful enough to kill Priors.[3] A Prior is a follower of the Ori who has been modified by the Ori to be superhuman, in the television science fiction series, Stargate SG-1. ...

The part of the temple on Dakara which houses the weapon is protected by a shield which can withstand several direct hits from the main weapon of an Ori battlecruiser before succumbing.[3] An Ori ship exiting an active Supergate Ori ships are fictional spacecraft belonging to the Ori in the science-fiction television show Stargate SG-1. ...

History

During the Replicator invasion of the Milky Way, Replicator Carter and her army uncovered its existence from the mind of Daniel Jackson. It was recognised as the only thing capable of destroying the Replicators, being based upon the same technology as the Replicator disruptor. However, this was also discovered by SG-1, and the two opposing sides tried to take control of the Ancient weapon. Image File history File links Stargate-earth-glyph. ... Eventually, by examining the wave from Jack O'Neill's Replicator Disrupter (also of Ancient design), Samantha Carter was able to alter the weapon with help from Jacob Carter/Selmak and Ba'al to send out waves that would only cause Replicators to permanently disassemble, causing the end of all known Replicator threats in the Milky Way galaxy. Shortly after the destruction of the Replicators, Anubis tried to seize the weapon. It was his plan to destroy all life in the galaxy, and redesign the galaxy as he saw fit. After this narrownly avoided galactic disaster, it was agreed that the weapon was too dangerous to remain operational, and the Jaffa decided to destroy it. [1]

However, the Jaffa never actually destroyed the weapon. Ba'al was aware of this and tried to take control of the Jaffa High Council, with the intention to use the weapon to obliterate all life in the galaxy except his own. The continued existence of the weapon remained unknown to the Tau'ri until the Jaffa used it as a last-ditch attempt to strike back at the Ori. It was the Jaffa's intention to kill all hands aboard and later take control of the abandoned battlecruiser. However, also aboard was Adria, who was protected against the effects of the weapon by a personal shield in her necklace. She was easily able to overcome the Jaffa and SG-1 who boarded the ship, and after having learned the position of the weapon, the only real threat to the Ori invasion, set course for Dakara, completely destroying the weapon.
