Dalanzadgad (Даланзадгад) is the capital of Ömnögovĭ aymag, Mongolia. It is located 540 kilometers (336 miles) south of the national capital Ulaanbaatar. It is situated at 43°34′N 104°26′E, and the altitude of the city center is 1,590 meters (5,217 feet). ÖmnögovÄ­ aymag (Өмнөговь аймаг) is one of the 21 provinces of Mongolia. ... Transport

The airport of Dalanzadgad (ZMDZ/DLZ) has one unpaved runway. It is served by regular domestic flights from and to Ulaanbaatar. There are summer and winter timetables. Flights are made by MIAT and other smaller companies. As Dalazadgad is on the tourist route to Gobi - there will be chartered flights from Ulaanbaatar, but not necessarily back - because the people continue to travel in Russian jeeps and mini buses.


Communications and Power

There is GSM coverage in the city the same as in other major locations - the coverage is good for about a mile out of the city. Usually, the city is also supplied with electric power 24 hours a day.

Before 1999 Dalanzadgad was home to the South Gobi Aimag Media Center, a state-run organization responsible for producing and delivering a bi-weekly newspaper as well as producing and broadcasting a twice-weekly radio program, and even the occasional TV program.
The staff of Dalanzadgad’s South Gobi Media Center made the courageous decision in late 1999 to register their entity as an NGO, thus becoming one of the first-ever independent media entities outside Ulaanbaatar.
