Dalkeith was originally settled on the River de Grasse (Rigaud River) around 1794 and was known as Robertson's Mills after William Robertson and his brother, who had a mill there. The Robertson's later renamed the village as Dalkeith in honour of their home town, Dalkeith, Scotland.
