Dalteparin is a low molecular weight heparin. It is marketed as Fragmin by Pfizer. Like other low molecular weight heparins, dalteparin is used for prophylaxis or treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. In medicine, low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) is a class of medication used as an anticoagulant in diseases that feature thrombosis, as well as for prophylaxis in situations that lead to a high risk of thrombosis. ... Dalteparin is used to prevent blood clot formation in patients at risk who are undergoing abdominal surgery or hip replacement surgery, and those who are on bed rest due to illness.
Dalteparin is also used in the treatment of certain types of angina and heart attacks, and to prevent complications of blood clots in patients who are also taking aspirin.
Dalteparin can be injected into the fat of the stomach (in a U-shape around the bellybutton); the upper, outer area of the thighs; or the upper, outer part of the buttocks.
