Dalworthington Gardens is a city located in Tarrant County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,186.


The name is a conglomerate of parts of names of the anchor cities of the Metroplex. Dallas forms the "Dal", Fort Worth forms the "worth", and Arlington forms the "ington". Hence, "Dal"-"worth"-"ington".


Geography

Dalworthington Gardens is located at 32°41'48" North, 97°9'21" West (32.696633, -97.155705)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.8 km˛ (1.9 mi˛). 4.7 km˛ (1.8 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.08% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,186 people, 747 households, and 622 families residing in the city. The population density is 461.2/km˛ (1,193.8/mi˛). There are 765 housing units at an average density of 161.4/km˛ (417.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 89.52% White, 6.08% African American, 0.50% Native American, 1.56% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 1.88% from two or more races. 3.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 747 households out of which 41.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.5% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.6% are non-families. 13.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.92 and the average family size is 3.21.


In the city the population is spread out with 28.9% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 28.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.8 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $75,528, and the median income for a family is $95,686. Males have a median income of $62,500 versus $30,978 for females. The per capita income for the city is $41,458. 1.8% of the population and 0.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.6% of those under the age of 18 and 2.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The Dalworthington Gardens charter was approved, and in early 1934, the federal government allotted $250,000 for the land purchase.

Dalworthington Gardens continued as a homestead project under this authority until 1949 when a majority of its residents voted to petition for incorporation as a town.
