Damnation Festival is a metal festival, 'organised for the fans, by the fans'. The festival was started by a group of eight passionate music fans who were disappointed in the lack of extreme metal bands and UK talent appearing on major British festival line-ups, and therefore decided to create their own festival showcasing the very best of British Metal and a few other select bands. 2005

The inaugural festival took place on October 16 2005 at Jilly's Rockworld in Manchester, England, and was a success, selling out completely and later on in the year earning fourth place in Terrorizer [1] Magazine's 2005 Reader Poll - Biggest Musical Event (behind only Download Festival, Wacken Open Air and Bloodstock '05 and ahead of Furyfest, Graspop, Ozzfest, Carling Weekend and Emperor reforming).
