Encyclopedia > Dan Greaney

Dan Greaney is a writer for The Simpsons. He was hired during the seventh season, but left after season eleven to try to make it big writing pilots. When that venture failed, he returned to the Simpsons staff during the thirteenth season. According to the DVD commentaries, prior to writing for the Simpsons, Greaney was working as a lawyer and was contemplating moving to Kiev, Ukraine to work for a start-up company. He says the Simpsons "saved me from that". Simpsons redirects here. ... Location Map of Ukraine with Kiev highlighted. ...

His earlier episodes (King-Size Homer, Summer of 4 Ft. 2) are considered by many to be some of the shows best episodes while his later ones (Bonfire of the Manatees) have received less enthusiastic reviews. He -- this is him writing now, in response to the foregoing -- says that he thinks "I D'oh-Bot" is pretty good, and that "Bart to the Future" is actually kind of a classic but is resisted by some fans for its negative-but-honest portrait of Bart's likely future. He thinks that saying he hit a late-career slump may be overstating things a bit. Although -- This is no longer Dan Greaney -- many fans have stated that their problem with "Bart to the Future" is not related to how Bart turns out, but that the episode uses a very sitcommish plot, and reuses many elements from a fan-favorite, "Lisa's Wedding." Fans also wish to remind Mr. Greaney that they all still love him for the many classic contributions he has made over the years to the show(plus, many fans think "'Scuse Me While I Miss the Sky" is pretty darn good.)
