Born and raised in Stamford, Malloy is the youngest of eight children. He met his wife Cathy, while both were attending Boston College, and they married in 1982. They have three sons Dannel 20, Benjamin 18, and Samuel 13. Dan graduated from Boston College Law School and Magna Cum Laude from Boston College. He served as the Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn from 1980 to 1984, trying 23 felony cases, some of them homicides, with 22 convictions.
