In 1995, Spitz left Anthrax, due to a severe disinterest in playing guitar. In the meantime he opened his own watch repair shop and converted to Christianity (Spitz was raised Jewish). On April 1, 2005, Anthrax announced an Among The Living reunion, and Spitz was reunited with the band. They embarked on a world tour and released a DVD with footage from those performances.


The band are currently writing new songs for an album to be recorded later this year and released in late 2006/early 2007.


Spitz stands at an very short 5 feet 1 inch. He does not appear to be offended by "short jokes", as his bandmates joke about his small size commonly (his nickname within the band is "Mini-Tower").

Dave "The Beast" Spitz is a musician who played the bass guitar for Black Sabbath from 1985 to 1987, appearing on the album Seventh Star (1986).
Spitz has also been a member of Lita Ford's band, Americade, White Lion, Impellitteri, Slamnation, Insomnia, Nuclear Assault, Great White, and Bill Ward's band.
He is the brother of musician Dan Spitz of the band Anthrax.

Anthrax was formed in 1981 by guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker, who, after a few early changes, were joined by drummer Charlie Benante, guitarist Dan Spitz, and vocalist Neil Turbin.
After Dan Lilker left to join Nuclear Assault, he was replaced by Frank Bello, Charlie Benante's nephew and a former roadie for the band.
During the hiatus between Sound of White Noise and Stomp 442, longtime guitarist Dan Spitz left the band, leaving Anthrax as a quartet for years.
