There are many styles of dances of Detroit, Michigan. The most notable being the Detroit Jit, a fast pace footwork dance stemming from the Jitterbug. Street dancing is a common link found amongst most American cities and Detroit is no exception. Born out of the 1960s and 1970s funk music, the street dance styles of Locking, Popping and Bboying (Breakdance) have become world renowned dance styles. Detroit has it own unique styles of dance, but has remained virtually unnoticed outside of the city. Dance styles such as the Bisco, Errol Flynn, The Funkateer, and Jit symbolize the best of Detroit’s street dance. These dances have long histories within the city, some claiming influences from the early 19th century. While some styles such as the Errol Flynn and the Funkateer have remained largely absent in recent years, Jit has always remained in the spotlight of Detroit's nightlife and party scene.
