Danger Doom: The Mouse and the Mask: Pitchfork Record Review (626 words)
When news first surfaced of this collaboration between forum-favorite emcee MF Doom and copyright-infringing producer Danger Mouse, keyboards were atwitter with conjecture of what the duo would produce.
MF Doom still wears his villainous mask and rhymes stuff with "goonie-goo-goo" and "poop," along with brilliantly enigmatic self-deprecations and disses so cryptic their targets are oblivious.
Danger Mouse, as he's done with cartoon hooligans and mashing up G.O.A.T.s, displays a deft hand on the sequencer and a taste for whimsical soundtrack samples.
Metroactive Music | Danger Doom (371 words)
Danger Doom's CD The Mouse and the Mask (Epitaph) is a milestone, a touchstone and prime merchandise for anyone who is stoned.
Doom is a longtime cartoon fanatic (his name is a reference to popular Fantastic Four villain Dr. Doom), so it is without shame that he proudly bases many of his lyrical plotlines on topics pulled from the various cult shows like Harvey Birdman, Sealab 2021 and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Danger Mouse's beats are bouncy and cartoony, using funky '70s keyboards, tinny trumpet parts and floating jazz flute lines to create buoyant beats that sound like they were sampled from the cartoon theme songs of years past.
