Encyclopedia > Dangun Feveron

Dangun Feveron (Also known as Fever SOS) is a vertical scrolling shooter game developed by Cave, and distributed by Nihon Software. It takes a marked departure from other games in the genre. The overall pace of Dangun Feveron is downright manic, with numerous swarms of enemies onscreen at any given time, and bosses that shoot intimidatingly large clusters of bullets. The score of the game is disco music, an unusual choice for a shoot-em-up. Scrolling shooters are a type of video game, a subgenre of the shooter or shooting game. ... Cave is a Japanese video game company, known in the West primarily for its incredibly manic shoot-em-ups. ...

Gameplay

Also unlike other vertical scrolling shooters, Dangun Feveron offers you a wide degree of customization in gameplay. You are prompted to select how fast you want your ship to move (one of four choices), choose one of three rapid-fire weapons (used when you press Fire rapidly), and one of three sustained-fire weapons (used when you hold down Fire). This allows you to tailor your ship to suit your needs, be it a fast-flying speeder with a widespread shot to quickly handle enemy squadrons, or a ship with lower speed to dodge bullets carefully, and concentrated firepower to destroy single foes faster. One last gimmick comes into play when you start- a rescue and score system. At first, every enemy you shoot down is only worth one point. However, when you blast an enemy, tiny people stuck in colored spheres appear from the downed foe. Touch them with your ship to rescue them. For each prisoner you save, you'll increase how many points enemies are worth by one. (Saving 56 prisoners means every enemy you defeat is worth 57 points). Each prisoner that appears will drift slowly toward the bottom of the screen, then move back up towards the top, after which they will disappear off the top of the screen if you don't rescue them. If you miss a prisoner, the enemy score is reset to one. If you lose all your lives and continue, the rescue count is reset to zero. There are only a few types of power-ups to be found from enemies. A "P" icon increases your gun's power. An "FP" will maximize your gun's power immediately, but usually they only appear after you use a continue. A "B" icon gives you back one smart bomb.
