Daniel R. (Dan) Garodnick is a New York City Councilman representing the 4th district, which comprises Midtown East, Murray Hill, Stuyvesant Town, and much of the Upper East Side. Garodnick was elected in 2005 with 63% of the vote, defeating Republican candidate Patrick Murphy. Prior to running for elective office, Garodnick was a litigation associate at the well-known New York law firm, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. He is a graduate of Trinity School and, in the city council, serves on many committees and chairs the Planning, Dispositions, & Concessions committee. Dan currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board of Directors of the New York Civil Rights Coalition. He is also a board member of the Holy Trinity Neighborhood Center on East 88th Street, which provides essential social services to homeless and unemployed people in the neighborhood.
