Kawczynski's family came to Britain from Poland in 1940, after Poland's invasion by the German army. He was educated at the University of Stirling (reading business studies with languages) and was President of the University Conservative Association in 1991. Whilst president Daniel led a renaissance in the Stirling Conservative Association and ensured the re-election of the sitting Conservative MP for Stirling, Michael Forsyth.
