He was a touring member of the folk rock band Spirit of the West in 1988 and 1989, but never appeared on any of the band's albums. Lapp and Linda McRae replaced Hugh MacMillan during MacMillan's hiatus from the band following the 1988 album Labour Day. Lapp left when MacMillan returned before the band's next album.
Lapp has since released a number of albums featuring an experimental brand of folk fused with jazz and electronic influences.
Daniel has been living in Victoria for some years now and has played a key role in the fiddle revival in that part of the province.
Daniel weaves samples, loops and most of all, energy into a set that will have world-music aficionados shaking their heads and their butts in amazement at the fearsome grooves and ambient flavours.
Daniel seems to have filled his life with a rare musical meaning, immersed in the tradition and engaged with the sounds and the tools of his time.
