Daniel Scioli (b. 13 January 1957) is the current vice president of Argentina under Néstor Kirchner (May 25, 2003–Present). Scioli presides over the Senate. Before becoming a politician, Scioli was a champion motorboat racer. He lost his right hand during a race. He became a Deputy for Buenos Aires in 1997 for the Justicialist Party and was re-elected in 2001. That year he became Secretary for Sport and Tourism. Scioli was a former protege of Carlos Menem, a former President of Argentina who was also running in the 2003 election, leading to some complaints from his peers when he chose to run with Kirchner. Argentine vice-president Daniel Scioli called on the United Kingdom to restablish sovereignty negotiations over the Falkland Islands underlining that the issue for Argentina is “a state policy for which the government toils tirelessly”.
