Daniell is a lunar impact crater located in the southern half of the Lacus Somniorum. To the south-southeast is the much larger Posidonius crater. Nearby can be found the Rimae Daniell rille system.
The rim of Daniell crater is oval in form, with the long axis oriented north-northwest to south-southeast. The wall is well-formed, and relatively free of wear. The interior is relatively featureless, and lacks a central peak.
Satellite craters
By convention these features are identified on Lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid-point that is closest to Daniell crater.
Crater Hercules, and its companion Atlas to the east, are "landmark" features, easily recognized and useful for orientation.
There is a small crater near the center of the much larger one, this little crater is Posidonius A and it is offset within the main crater to the south.
A is a circlet of four little peaks on the floor of the main crater.
