Danilov was first mentioned in a chronicle at the year 1592. It obtained the town status in 1777.
There is a cheese producing plant and some other industries.
There is also a major railway station where locomotives are switched from electrification system DC 3kV to AC 25kV and vice versa. Railway lines go to Yaroslavl, Vologda and Buy.
Danilov Monastery, in full Svyato-Danilov Monastery or Holy Danilov Monastery (Данилов монастырь, Свято-Данилов монастырь in Russian), is a male monastery on the right bank of the Moskva River in Moscow, Russia.
In 1606, the rebels under the command of Ivan Bolotnikov and Istoma Pashkov collided with the army of Vasili IV not far from the monastery.
In the second half of the 19th century, Danilov Monastery's cemetery was a final resting place for many writers, artists and scientists, such as Nikolai Gogol, Nikolai Yazykov, Vasili Perov, Nikolai Rubinstein and many others.
Danilov was charged with treason in the form of espionage under Article 275 of the Criminal Code and of fraud (Article 159).
Yelena Yevmenova, Danilov’s lawyer, told Gazeta.Ru that before passing the verdict the jurors spent four hours discussing the proceedings and evidence presented to the court, whereupon 8 of the 12 jurors decided in favour of acquitting the scientist on all charges.
Valentin Danilov, the former head of the Thermo-Physics Research Centre of the Krasnoyarsk State Technical University, was arrested by officers of the Krasnoyarsk FSB directorate in February 2001 for allegedly selling top secret satellite information to a Chinese company.
