Danny Dark (December 19, 1938 - June 13, 2004) was an announcer who came to be known as the "voice" of the NBC television network for several years. Dark's voice also gained him jobs with RCA TV commercials and Keebler cookies, as well as the role of Superman and Clark Kent on the 1970s cartoon Superfriends. Dark's single movie role came as an announcer in 1980's "Melvin and Howard" starring Jason Robards. Danny Dark, the unseen voice of Budweiser, StarKist tuna and many other national brands in television and radio commercials, died June 13 in Los Angeles.
Dark, whose real name was Daniel Melville Croskery, was born in Oklahoma City and raised in Tulsa, Okla. He graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, which under the guidance of English teacher Isabelle E. Ronan was a training ground for future stars.
Dark began a radio career that later took him to stations in Tulsa, Cleveland, Miami, New Orleans, St. Louis, and finally a 1963-66 stint as the evening DJ for KLAC-AM in Los Angeles.
