Danny Gare (Born May 14, 1954 in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada) was a noted ice hockey player in the NHL. He was the captain of the Detroit Red Wings before Steve Yzerman. He also played for the Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers. After his playing career was over he was briefly an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is currently employed as a commentator for the Buffalo Sabres television broadcasts. Gare's numbers in junior caught the eye of the Buffalo Sabres' scouting staff, and the Sabres made him their second pick - 29th overall - in the 1974 NHL Entry Draft.
Gare made headlines again in 1981, when he was one of the key players in a blockbuster trade between the Sabres and the Detroit Red Wings.
