Tiatto won 25 caps for the Australian national team (scoring 1 goal) before his retirement from international football in October 2005. Tiatto started his career with his hometown club Melbourne Knights. In 1996 he joined Salernitana of the Italian Serie B on a temporary basis, but did not earn a permanent contract. A spell at Swiss side Baden followed, before Tiatto came to English football with a loan move to Stoke City. In the summer of 1998 Tiatto was signed by Manchester City for a fee of £300,000. Tiatto struggled to hold down a first team place during his first season at Manchester City, partially due to indiscipline. The next season was more successful for Tiatto, making 35 appearances as Manchester City gained promotion to the Premiership. The 2001/02 season saw Manchester City relegated, however, Tiatto performed well for the struggling club, and won Manchester City's Player of the Year award for the season. The 2001/02 season saw Tiatto again form part of a promotion winning side. On the return to the top division Tiatto again found his first team opportunities limited. A sending off against Blackburn Rovers six minutes after coming on a substitute resulted in a long exile from the first team. Injuries also restricted appearances, with Tiatto making just 13 starts in the final two years of his time at Manchester City. Tiatto signed for Leicester on a 2 year deal in the summer of 2004, after his contract Manchester City expired. Usually employed as a left-winger by his current club, Tiatto can play anywhere down the left side, or even in central midfield. He was a firm favourite with Leicester fans, he was voted Leicester City's 2005 Player of the Season by supporters, however he had a bad season in the 2005-2006 season, mainly due to indiscipline and injury and didn't play well when he was played and when in June 2006 he signed a new 1 year deal some Leicester fans weren't happy, however he seems to have won them over again with a string of sensational performances that have helped Leicester climb back up the league

Danny Tiatto was regarded as a rough player in Australia, were he recieved numerous bookings and was also fined $2.500 after a fight involving several players during a match between Melbourne Knights and Newcastle Breakers.
Danny first appeared in a City shirt came as a triallist in a pre season game where he impressed but while City were thinking on whether to sign the defender he decided to go for a loand deal with Stoke City instead.
Danny was a regular during Citys roller-coaster ride from the 2nd Division to the Premiership, back to the 1st Division and then back to the Premiership again.
