Are You Dave Gorman?

In 1999, it was Wallace who challenged Dave Gorman (his then flatmate) to find 54 other people called Dave Gorman ("one for every card in the deck, including the Jokers") and then accompanied Dave on his quest. A quest that would lead him to Scotland, Israel and America and very nearly result in the loss of his girlfriend and his sanity. Wallace produced and co-wrote the subsequent TV series The Dave Gorman Collection based on their adventures, broadcast in 2000. While he performed only once or twice on the show, he was mentioned frequently in most episodes, and was visible in the front row of the audience. He later co-produced and co-wrote the Important Astrology Experiment, also with Gorman, for BBC Two. Dave and Danny co-wrote the award-nominated book, Are You Dave Gorman?, which was published in 2001. Join Me

In 2003, Danny wrote the book Join Me, about how he started the "cult" of that name. The movement is now generally referred to as the Karma Army, although members are still typically "joinees". The popular quote "it's not a cult, it's a collective" stems from the fact that Wallace did not want to encourage a sinister image, when asking people to send him a passport photo to "join" him. He has occasionally begrudgingly agreed, in interviews, that Join Me is in fact a cult, hence the book's cover blurb: "The true story of a man who started a cult by accident." Qwerty Films are currently developing a film version with writer Frank Cottrell Boyce. Frank Cottrell Boyce is a British screenwriter, best known for his work with film director Michael Winterbottom. ...

On a recent appearance on BBC One's Graham Norton's Bigger Picture, Wallace confirmed he now has around 16,000 joinees, who each do a good deed on a Friday for a stranger. He stated that around six new passport photos arrive in the post every day, from all over the world. Joinees continue to meet up around the world. A recent "Join MEet" (sic) in London saw 250 joinees swarm the streets, undertaking random acts of kindness for thousands of tourists. On the same day, they completed a mission Wallace had set them: to raise £5000 to build a classroom for children in Kenya. Other missions have included sending a cow to a village in India, and saving a farm in Thailand. This article or section does not adequately cite its references or sources. ...

As a follow-up Wallace wrote a small book called Random Acts of Kindness: 365 Ways To Make the World A Better Place, with the help of submissions from Joinees. It includes many humorous Random Acts of Kindness (RAoK) ideas, such as "Contradict Demeaning Graffiti", and "Hide a surprise under someone's pillow. (Horses' heads are discouraged.)" A random act of kindness or RAoK is a selfless act performed by kind people to either help or cheer up a random stranger, for no reason other than to make people happier. ...

Yes Man

Wallace's second solo book, Yes Man was published in July 2005. In it, he describes how he spent a half year "saying Yes where once would have said No", to make his life more interesting and positive. In this book he shows the tribulations and mischief that he got up to while he said yes, to any question or proposal, for numerous months. The book according to some can be seen as a self-help book as well as humour. Though the term self-help can refer to any case whereby an individual or a group betters themselves economically, intellectually or emotionally, the connotations of the phrase have come to apply particularly to psychological or psychotherapeutic nostrums, often purveyed through the popular genre of the self-help book. ...
