Encyclopedia > Danville Area Community College

Danville Area Community College is a two-year community college primarily serving East Central Illinois. Located in Danville, Illinois, the college is accredited, and provides associate's degrees in three programs: Applied Science, Science and Arts and Engineering Science. The college also offers transfer programs in many areas, some of the most popular being healthcare, agriculture and business administration.

History

Danville Area Community College was originally established in 1946 as an extension of the University of Illinois, in order to serve the large number of troops returning from World War II. The college was originally housed at Danville High School. In 1965, the college moved to 2000 East Main Street in Danville, occupying several buildings of the former Old_soldiers'_home on a 75 acre (304,000 mē) campus.

Since then, several buildings have been added, and existing ones have been renovated. New buildings include the Mary Miller complex, an ornamental horticulture building, technology center, and child development center.

In 2002, DACC opened the Downtown Education Center in the heart of downtown Danville in order to facilitate the growing demand for career-prepartory classes.

Cost and residency

Community College District No. 507 encompasses portions of Vermilion, Edgar, Iroquois, Champaign and Ford counties in Illinois. As of the 2004-2005 school year, residents of this district, or students who work in-district more than 35 hours per week pay tuition of $56.00 per credit hours. Additionally, out-of-district students with authorization from their local districts also pay the in-district rate.

Out-of-district students pay $200.00 per credit hour, with the exception of a designated 7-county area in Indiana, covering Vermillion, Parke, Fountain, Warren, Tippecanoe, Benton and Montgomery counties.

Since July 1, 1984, tuition fees have been waived for in-district students over the age of 60. These students are still required to pay reduced registration and course fees, however.

Danville Area Community College, Dkt. No. 94-181-SP (995 words)
The gravamen of Danville's defense is its position that it complied with the requisite requirements of Title IV in disbursing the $815.00 Title IV loan to the student at issue.
Danville concedes that to its embarassment it mistakenly reported to SFAP that the student had obtained an Associate Degree prior to enrolling in courses for the 1992-93 academic year.
To show that the student was eligible to receive a Title IV loan, Danville submitted copies of the student's course record and transcript, which reveals that the student enrolled at Danville in the institution's Liberal Arts and Sciences program 6 in the Summer term immediately following her graduation from high school in June 1987.
