Encyclopedia > Dapto

Dapto is a town in the Illawarra district of New South Wales, Australia. Then name is believed to have been the aboriginal name for the area. Dapto is located on the western shore of Lake Illawarra and has become effectively a suburb of Wollongong. The Illawarra Line electric rail service temporarily terminated in Dapto before the electrification was extended to Kiama.

The Dapto football team is known as 'The Canaries' and compete in the local Tooheys League.
