He studied for a long time many different brazilian aboriginal groups, writing important works about brazilian cultures and racial groups, including the most famous O Povo Brasileiro, a synthesis about the construction of the brazilian society.


He was also Minister of Education in Brazil, during 1961 thru 1964 and the founder of Universidade de Brasilia, one of the most important brazilian universities.
