History

The band was originally formed in 1995, by five people: Brett Hestla of Virgos Merlot, Troy McLawhorn of Doubledrive, Clint Lowery of Sevendust, Corey Lowery of Stereomud, Stuck Mojo, and Will Hunt of Skrape. But they didn't make a record through the years because the members were in different bands until they came together again in 2004. The band is considered a sort of supergroup considering the fact that all five members have spent time in nu metal and hard rock groups of varying success, although the band members disagree with this classification, largely because, with the exception of Sevendust, none of their prior projects fared very well commercially. Both songs retain the melody and excellent full-band harmonies that the band has become known for, while adding new dimension to the Dark New Day catalog. In September 2007, Clint posted on Dark New Day's MySpace page saying that the band returned to the studio to record their next album with producer Dave Bendeth[1] and on December 5, 2007, the band posted a blog on their MySpace page announcing that the album mixing was complete, and that they would soon issue a statement regarding a release date. It has been speculated that the album would be released in early 2008.

Some possible track titles for the new album include:

  • Fiend

On March 25,2008, Clint posted a blog on the Dark New Day Myspace page saying that he has left the band so he can rejoin his former band Sevendust. It is unclear if Dark New Day will stay together, but blogs by Will Hunt hint around about staying together.

Trivia

  • The song "Pieces" contains a verse from the song "Back Again" by The Devine, a band that frontman Brett Hestla also sang for, that eventually became Virgos Merlot. The verse reads "The wheels they turn for you, a deity for two. Holding on it's true, won't bring it back again. The way you look my friend, it's closer to the end, I'm holdin' out my hand to bring it back again." This verse is also included in the song "Could've" by Virgos with a slight variation in words.
  • The song "Pieces" was recently featured as background music for menus in the videogame WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006.
  • The song "Brother" is one of the songs that comes with the U.K., U.S. and Australian release of the Xbox 360.
  • In addition to his time as frontman for The Devine and Virgos Merlot, Brett Hestla was also briefly a touring bassist for the band Creed. Hestla also runs his own studio in Orlando, Florida. Besides Dark New Day, bands that have used Hestla's facilities include Faktion, "Framing Hanley", "Charetta", "Signum A.D.", Dmanufacture,
  • Sevendust remains the only band in the history of Dark New Day's members that still exists and continues to be successful; all the other groups had disbanded prior to Dark New Day's formation.
