There are plans by Sheffield City Council to construct a wind farm as a renewable power source to the urban area of Sheffield. A site of moorland in the South Dark Peak has been selected as a potential site for the wind farm. There has been strong support for them as well as bitter opposition by many locals. The Sheffield Green Party, for example, has expressed its opposition to the construction of the turbines.


Over the years, a number of military aircraft have crashed on the Dark Peak. There are numerous photographs of the various crash sites on the Dark Peak at High Peak Bob. (The author of the site lives nearby in the Glossop area).
