Unlike trance genres that are considered to be "commercial", dark psytrance does not generally use vocals, though there is use of sampling, usually, but not only taken from horror movies. The atmosphere and theme of the tracks often resemble genres like darkcore and cybergrind, and generally draw its influences from the heavy metal culture, however dark psy artists rarely use guitars in their tracks. Dark psytrance is also influenced by Musique concrète (abstarct and disharmonic sounds) and usually uses glitch techniques.
