By taking a picture inside the cockpit of Mika Häkkinen's retired car - revealing the footwell - and accompanying pictures of McLaren's exiting corners with their rear brake discs glowing, he is credited with revealing a secret independent braking system in 1997 (which Williams and Jordan would imitate the following season). The sensitive cockpit picture was published in F1 Racing that year. Darren Heath is one of the world foremost photographers of Formula One having won many awards for his images over a number of years. In 2005 he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship to The Royal Photographic Society in recognition of his contribution to the art and science of photography in his chosen field.


His work is renowned for its creative depiction of the sport: maximising the colour, vibrancy, speed and emotion of Formula One. During the 18 years he has been shooting at Grand's Prix he has worked with many prestigious clients including, Ford, Jaguar, BMW, Toyota, Philip Morris, British American Tobacco, Vodafone, Bridgestone, Foster’s, FIA, Time, F1Racing, Car Graphic, Car, Top Gear, The Sunday Times, The Observer, and Kraken Opus.


In addition to his F1 work Darren has undertaken a number of commissions at other international motor sport events including World Championship rallies, Moto GP, Sportscar racing and editorial and advertising commissions for road car manufacturers.


Non motor sport shoots have also featured in his career with the likes of Lucky Strike, The Sun, Conde Nast Traveller, The London Business School, Ford and BMW.


Darren is based in London.
