History

He is the ruler of an order of Sith that he establishes approximately 30 years after A New Hope. Krayt was formerly a Jedi named A'Sharad Hett. Hett was the son of exiled Jedi Sharad Hett, and a Tusken slave girl on the outer-rim planet Tatooine. The elder Hett trained his son in the ways of the Jedi from a young age, and he even built his own lightsaber from junk parts presumably pilfered from Jawa scrap heaps. Though his father raised him as a Jedi, there was no denying his distinctly Tusken upbringing. When the Jedi Council got word that Hett was alive on Tatooine, Ki-Adi-Mundi was sent to investigate. Unfortunately for them both, Dark Jedi bounty hunter Aurra Sing had also been sent to find Hett. The resulting encounter left the elder Hett dead, but Ki-Adi-Mundi was able to save the boy and brought him to the Jedi Temple, where he took him as his padawan, to finish his training.

Hett participated on a mission to locate Aurra Sing before The Battle of Naboo. He also went on a mission to Malastare with many Jedi Council Members.

Years later, Hett served in the Clone Wars. During one particular mission, he was stranded on the desert planet Aargonar with fellow Jedi Anakin Skywalker, who had a particular dislike for Tuskens. Early in the battle, Hett's Padawan Bhat Jul, was killed. It was during this mission that Hett decided to remove the traditional Tusken headwraps he wore. A'sharad Hett served in many more battles throughout the Clone Wars, such as the one on Saleucami.

During the Great Jedi Purge, A'Sharad survived the massacre and returned to Tatooine. He returned to his first home to live amongst the Tusken Raiders, where he began to plot his own war on the Sith.

Eventually he went to Korriban, and instead of waging war on the Sith, he resurrected the Sith Order. He twisted the Force to his will and gave himself unnaturally long life, leading his new Sith Order for over a century as Darth Krayt. As of now it is unknown how or why A'Sharad turned to the dark side of the Force.

The Ossus Project

Krayt and his servants first appeared when they sabotaged the extensions of the Ossus Project. Accusations where directed at the Yuuzhan Vong, the Jedi suspected that a third party was to blame, but could not find any proof to substantiate their intuition. Meanwhile, the galaxy fell into civil war as the New Galactic Empire declared war on the Galactic Alliance. Begining the Sith-Imperial War that lead to the eventual defeat of the Galactic Alliance. Throughout, the Jedi are powerless to help. During the war, Coruscant was captured and the Jedi Temple was converted for use for the Sith. Ascension to power

Darth Krayt and three of his highest ranking apprentices — Darth Nihl, Darth Maladi, and Darth Wyyrlok — would shortly afterwards meet with Emperor Fel at Corusant to inform him of the victory. The Sith then proceeded to attack Fel and his bodyguards. After killing them, Krayt declared himself Emperor and ordered the Moffs present to swear their allegiance to him. Shortly after dismissing them, he informed Darth Maladi that the Emperor he killed was a decoy. Realising that the Emperor still posed a threat to him, he ordered his Sith followers to hunt down and kill him as well as the remaining Jedi. Krayt would later summon the spirits of Darth Bane, Darth Nihilus, and Darth Andeddu. They not only refused to help him, they also refused to recognize him as the Dark Lord of the Sith.
