Encyclopedia > Data communication equipment

DCE: Abbreviation for data circuit-terminating equipment.

1. In a data station, the equipment that performs functions, such as signal conversion and coding, at the network end of the line between the data terminal equipment (DTE) and the line, and that may be a separate or an integral part of the DTE or of intermediate equipment.

2. The interfacing equipment that may be required to couple the data terminal equipment (DTE) into a transmission circuit or channel and from a transmission circuit or channel into the DTE. Synonyms data communications equipment (deprecated), data set (deprecated).

Source: from Federal Standard 1037C and from MIL-STD-188

DCE may also be an acronym for the Distributed Computing Environment, a specification from The Open Group.

IBM JRD 49-4/5 | Challenges of data center thermal management (7324 words)
The data center consisted of 40 racks of data processing (DP) equipment, with front-to-back cooling, which were placed in rows in an alternating hot aisle/cold aisle arrangement located in the center of the floor with four CRAC units at the perimeter of the 12.1-m-wide by 13.4-m-long room.
As in [1], the total chilled air provided to the data center by the CRAC units was varied to 80%, 100%, and 120% of the DP rack flow rate, but it was distributed in three configurations to both the cold and hot aisles.
Since data centers typically require an additional 30% to 50% of the data processing energy for cooling, it may be possible to save a large amount of energy in the thousands of data centers around the world.
Connecting apparatus for plural channel digital communication network - Patent 5333132 (7729 words)
The SDLC frame of data is generated in bytes at the data output bus of microcontroller 100 and then transmitted to the first input bus 111 of selector 120 via latches 110, and then to the input of serializer 160.
The data sent on each B channel all begin with the same pattern: the one corresponding to the channel which was the first assigned to the calling terminal equipment.
Data which are transmitted through the B1 channel and which are extracted from storage 580 are transmitted via OR gate 790 to the data terminating equipment connected to the terminal adapter at 64 kbps.
