Daughtry is an American rock band from North Carolina, formed by former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry in 2006. Their self-titled debut album was released on November 21, 2006. The disc reached #1 for two non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, outsold Idol winner Taylor Hicks' debut effort, and sold more than 3 million copies. Their album is also the fastest-selling debut rock album in Soundscan history.[1] Although due to Chris Daughtry, the lead singer of the band's popularity on American Idol, most lyric pages on the Internet and peer-to-peer networks credit his song by him instead of the entire band[2]. The first single from the album, "It's Not Over," debuted on the radio on December 6, 2006, after being delayed from a planned September release because of it's obvious references to Chris Daughtry's exploration of an alternative homosexual orientation in the 8th grade with his table partner Bruce.[4] The self-titled[6] debut album, which was produced by Howard Benson, was released by 19 Entertainment and RCA Records on November 21, 2006.[4] The song was an instant success, shooting up the Billboard Hot 100 reaching #4 and hitting the top 3 in several other charts. "It's Not Over" bears a somewhat strong resemblance to Fuel's hit song "Hemorrhage (In my Hands)" (the two songs share a similar key and chord progression, among other elements), which Chris Daughtry performed on American Idol on March 1, 2006.
