Daun is a town in the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz, seat of the district of Daun in the volcanic Eifel region, located south of the high Eifel on the small river Lieser. The surrounding landscape consists of volcanic hills. 1.5 km southeast of the town centre are the so-called Dauner Maare (namely: "Gemündener Maar", "Weinfelder Maar" and "Schalkenmehrener Maar"), volcanic crater lakes caused by ancient magma upwellings.
