He stopped playing in the early 1990s after the band broke up. Dave would never play again as the result of developing tendonitis in both hands.
Of Yugoslavian extraction, Dave then travelled to study in Serbia, but in the wake of the NATO bombing campaign there he was forced to return to the US.
In late 2003, he told an interviewer his favorite bassists included Charles Mingus.
The band consisted of Joe Jack Talcum (Joe Genaro; guitar, vocals), Dave Blood (DaveSchulthise; bass), Dean Clean (Dean Sabatino; drums), and Rodney Anonymous (Rodney Linderman; vocals, synth).
Schulthise left music after the breakup only to commit suicide in 2004.
The Dead Milkmen took the stage again for two consecutive nights in November 2004 at the Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia to play a show in memory of DaveSchulthise.
