David Vanian is and has always been the core of the seminal alternativepunk band; The Damned. He also leads the rockabilly band David Vanian & the Phantom Chords. He is currently married to Patricia Morrison. He is famous for bringing the gothic image to the pop culture world due to earing it onstage & off, though does not personally make note of this. Notorious for keeping his personal life out of the limelight, even opting out of any input of The Damned bio-book The Light At The End Of The Tunnel by Carol Clerk. He is known to be vastly interested in renaissance art & film noir, which he speaks of as well as sings of. Living currently on the English coast with wife Patricia Morrison. Original members DaveVanian (David Lett), Captain Sensible (Ray Burns), and Rat Scabies (Chris Millar) were all members of the semi-legendary Masters of the Backsides which included future Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde.
Vanian's deadpan intro ("Is she really going out with him?") was later borrowed by Joe Jackson for the title of arguably his best-known song.
Likewise, Vanian's vocals had expanded from the high-baritone barks of the early records to a range including a smooth, proto-Gothic croon.
