Anderson credits his postdoctoral advisor and career mentor, Richard Axel, a fellow HHMI investigator and winner of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, for influencing his approach to scientific problems.
Anderson is also Roger W. Sperry Professor of Biology at the California Institute of Technology and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, Los Angeles.
