David Bruce Audretsch (born November 15, 1954)) is an American economist. He is currently the Director at the Max Planck Institute of Economics, Jena in Germany. He is also the Ameritech Chair of Economic Development and Director of the Institute for Development Strategies at Indiana University and a research fellow at the CEPR, London. He is co-founder and co-editor of the academic journal on entrepreneurship and small business called Small Business Economics. David Audretsch got his B.A. at the Drew University in 1976, his M.S. in Economics in 1979 and later his doctorate in 1980 from the University of Wisconsin. He was at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB) in Berlin, Germany between 1984 and 1997. From 1989 till 1991 he served as Acting Director of the Institute. According to a Columbia University study, Audretsch was the 99th most cited economist from 1990 to 2000 [1]. His research focused on the links between entrepreneurship, government policy, innovation, economic development and global competitiveness.
