He worked as club bouncer, until he won recognition for his book, 25th Hour. He later adapted the book into a film, starring Edward Norton and directed by Spike Lee. Thus began his career as a Hollywood screenwriter. He adapted a screenplay of the mythological epic, Troy (2004). He also sold the two-million-dollar script, Stay. Yes, David Benioff would find the true story unbelievable at first sight, but will he actually get the chance to discover the amazing real story behind Troy which has at last been rediscovered after a life time of carefull research.
If David Benioff looks he will find the dicoveries are supported by a substantial range of evidence including ancient writtings, precise geographic and linguistic evidence as well a vast range of archaeological finds.
The Greeks did not know (and no doubt David Benioff too) that the Trojans who once lived in Hissarlik area were migrants, because the collective memory of this fact was lost during the Dark Ages (1200-750 BC).

If I thought they would stand still for it, I'd drive over to their house right now and read them a short novel by David Benioff entitled THE 25TH HOUR, a short cautionary tale for Generation X in the closing days of the 20th Century and the dawning of the 21st.
Benioff has had some short stories and essays published in such diverse publications as 17 and Esquire, none of which will prepare you for the absolute brilliance that he exhibits in this, his first novel.
Benioff's stark prose, by turns haunting and brutal and poetic and honest, nails the street and its people perfectly.
