David Benoit (681 words)
David Benoit helped to create the current contemporary jazz sound, and certainly is responsible for the keyboard's central role in the music that has come to be known as "smooth jazz".
Though detractors might dismiss Benoit's work as "overproduced smooth jazz", there is no question that he is a talented musician, both as a player and a composer.
It's also good to think that someone with as wide a musical background as Benoit is actually interacting with kids, helping him or her to realize that there is a wide world of music out there, rather than over-emphasizing one "true" style of jazz as some other artists have done.
David Benoit Career Profile (1625 words)
Benoit returned to the United States fresh off his season in Spain, and was given a spot on the Utah Jazz's entry in the 1991 Rocky Mountain Revue summer league.
Benoit found himself filling a reserve role for both the Nets and Magic, and, as a result, he finished the season with a career-low average of 5.5 points, and shot a career-low 37.3% from the field.
David Benoit returned to the Jazz in the fall of 2001, and had a brief stint in their pre-season training camp, before being released.
